Two More Dead Bodies Found in Greek Ferry; 3 People Still Missing

February 25, 2022

ATHENS – Two more dead bodies were found in the third car deck of the burnt ship ‘Euroferry Olympia’ on Friday, raising the total of confirmed dead to eight, and leaving another three people unaccounted for.

The body of a man was found by a fire brigade disasters team (EMAK) in the ferry’s second garage earlier on Friday.

A total of 281 passengers and crew have been rescued since a fire broke out on the ferry early on February 18, while it was travelling from Igoumenitsa to Brindisi. It was carrying cars and trucks and was eventually towed from NE of Erikoussa island to Astakos on the western coast of Greece.

EMAK workers continued searching the interior of the ferry on Friday, while the ship’s main ramp will soon be lowered to remove burnt cars and trucks.
