Greece: Mandatory Test for Unvaccinated Travellers on Arrival, Regardless of Nationality

ATHENS — The aviation directive outlining the requirements and conditions for entry into Greek territory on flights from abroad in order to limit the spread of COVID-19 was extended until 6:00 on Friday, September 3, 2021. Τhe new addition to the notam for international flights provides a mandatory arrival test for unvaccinated travellers, regardless of nationality, from the following (16) sixteen countries: Egypt, Albania, Argentina, Bulgaria, Brazil, Georgia , Cuba, United Arab Emirates, India, China, Libya, Morocco, North Macedonia, Pakistan, Russia and Turkey.

In particular, according to the Civil Aviation Service, the notam with the conditions of entry of passengers to Greece for flights from abroad, which will be valid until 3/9/21, provides the following:

Prohibitions of third-country nationals: The aviation directive prohibits the entry of third-country nationals from countries outside the EU and the Schengen Area, including their spouses or persons with whom they have entered into a cohabitation agreement and their minor children, from entering the country. Exempted from the ban are passengers traveling for essential reasons and permanent residents of the following 35 countries: Australia, North Macedonia, United Arab Emirates, United States of America, United Kingdom, Israel, Canada, Belarus, Bahrain, New Zealand, South Korea, Qatar, China, Kuwait, Ukraine, Russia, Saudi Arabia, Serbia, Singapore, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Montenegro, Albania, Japan, Lebanon, Azerbaijan, Armenia, Jordan, Moldavia, Monaco, Turkey and Kosovo.

What applies to the PLF: All travelers to Greece, regardless of nationality, must fill in the electronic form Passenger Locator Form (PLF), at the electronic address https://travel.gov.gr any time before the departure of the flight to Greece. The proof of completion of the PLF electronic form, which is automatically sent by e-mail to the passenger by the system, is considered a necessary travel document.

Entering Greece with a vaccine certificate or negative PCR / RAPID TEST or a certificate of having recovered from Covid-19: For travelers to Greece, the condition for entering the country is one of the following:

1) To have completed at least fourteen (14) days before the COVID-19 coronavirus vaccination and to present a vaccination certificate, in Greek, English, French, German, Italian, Spanish or Russian, issued by a public authority.

2) To have been diagnosed negative in a laboratory test for COVID-19 coronavirus by the PCR method within the last seventy two (72) hours, or within forty eight (48) hours before their arrival in Greece in case of a rapid test.

3) Alternatively, travelers to Greece must have a certificate of having contracted Covid-19 issued thirty (30) days after the first positive test, which is valid for up to 180 days after that date.

4) Flight travelers from abroad may also carry, in digital or printed form, a digital COVID-19 certificate issued by European or third countries, which contains information on their vaccination or the result of the last test (48-hour rapid test or 72-hour PCR) or coronavirus disease.

Children over 12 years are also obliged to present proof of either vaccination, a negative test or certificate of illness or digital certificate for entry into Greece.
