“Filiki Eteria: The Brotherhood Behind the Revolution” to Premiere July 15

ATHENS – The Piraeus Group Cultural Foundation (PIOP), in the context of Piraeus Bank’s efforts celebrating the 200th Anniversary of the start of the Greek Revolution of 1821, presents the theatrical performance Filiki Eteria: The Brotherhood behind the Revolution, directed by Ioli Andreadi and with an original text by Andreadi and Aris Asproulis, based on research conducted by the two playwrights. This is their twelfth theatrical work, which combining historical events with fiction, unfolds on stage the melancholy thread that governs the lives of the founders of the Filiki Eteria, from the crazy and passionate vision of national independence to their hard and lonely experience.

The play stars Nefeli Kouri, Agisilaos Mikelatos, Kostas Nikoulis, and Despina Sarafeidou.

The show is expected to premiere on July 15 and tour in the summer of 2021 in the open spaces of the nine Museums of PIOP, but also in the Historical Archive of the Foundation in Athens, with free admission for the public. The production has also been invited to perform in New York at THE TANK Theater in Manhattan in April 2022 for three nights with English subtitles.
