LOVE is in the Air on Staten Island at Above and Nicotra’s Ballroom

February 11, 2020

Above, the stunning rooftop wedding and event space at the Hilton Garden Inn showcases panoramic views of Staten Island’s four bridges and the Manhattan skyline. The sophisticated, 10 story tower connected to the Hilton with its custom slate facade and dramatic architectural exterior elements features a separate lobby, a rooftop lounge with an outdoor terrace and private dining room, a modern ballroom and more than 50 elegantly appointed rooms and suites.

Above, a 9,600 square-foot, glass-enclosed ballroom features a custom light installation with 4,000 Swarovski crystals each with its own LED light. Twenty-foot floor-to-ceiling windows are complemented by a single-slab Carrera-marble candle wall, with built in niches; a white Italian-marble dance floor; and Venetian-glass-infused wallpaper. Other unique features include three soft seating areas and an illuminated onyx bar with an 18-foot, silver-leaf frame. Above accommodates up to 300 guests in single banquet seating that services modern, seasonal American cuisine.

The guest rooms and suites were designed in response to guests seeking upscale amenities and well-appointed suites for their wedding day. The large suites are perfectly suited to host a bride, her attendants and their beauty consultants with plenty of well-lit mirrors and even a mannequin to hold the bridal gown. Owner Richard Nicotra says, “weddings held at Above are high-end; even Manhattan couples come to Above. We ensure that your wedding is memorable and the start of your honeymoon is unforgettable.”

Above Rooftop, a 9,600- square-foot, indoor-outdoor event venue, offers both a modern cocktail hour with a dramatic 50-foot-long Calcatta marble bar, along with an 18-foot-tall, illuminated back bar. An open kitchen and upscale lounge seating, with marble tables, are illuminated by fiber-optic bubble lights imported from England. Italian ceramic flooring is underfoot throughout. A stone wall with an 80-square-foot LED video screen and a state-of-the-art sound system make Above Rooftop a unique and modern event space. The open air terrace has heated draped cabanas and corner fire-pit seating, showcasing sweeping views of Staten Island, New Jersey and Manhattan. Above’s private dining room, a separate event space, features a cantilevered private terrace, private powder room and a dramatic, fiber-optic lighting installation, with its own spectacular views.

The newly renovated Nicotra’s Ballroom, the Hilton’s elegant garden level event space, can be customized for both intimate weddings, or larger events upward of 400 guests. Nicotra’s Ballroom boasts woodland views and gorgeous gardens and fountains with a great lawn and Florentine gazebo for outdoor ceremonies and photos.  The Tea House Garden is a magical Japanese decor-infused event space with a glass ceiling, wall of waterfalls, and an outdoor pagoda and koi pond. The silk tented Italian piazza, The Trevi Garden, is filled with old-world charm and romance with its cobblestone flooring and lampposts from Venice. Lois and Richard Nicotra have filled the property with art and flowers: the iconic 40 foot LOVE sculpture, and most recently the 22 foot XOXOX sculpture on our great lawn, giving our wedding couples even more picture perfect moments and creating the perfect ‘destination wedding’ right here on Staten Island.
