‘The Sounds of Lent’ Concert Impresses the Audience at the Archdiocesan Cathedral

NEW YORK – On March 23, the Greek Orthodox Archdiocesan Cathedral of the Holy Trinity in New York City presented ‘The Sounds of Lent,’ a concert celebrating the start of Holy and Great Lent. The Archdiocesan Cathedral Choir, Youth Choir, and Orchestra, led by Maestro Costas Tsourakis, impressed all those present with this special performance.

The concert, under the high patronage of His Eminence Archbishop Elpidophoros of America, featured an eclectic selection of hymns and songs that resonate with the Lenten season, from Greek Orthodox Hymns to classics from the sacred oratorio repertoire. The Archdiocesan Cathedral Choir and Youth Choir closed the concert with the resounding ‘Τῇ Ὑπερμάχῳ’, from the arrangement of the Symphony of Levendia by Manolis Kalomiris. Maestro Costas Tsourakis, Director of Music at the Cathedral, remarked: “The success of ‘The Sounds of Lent’ concert highlights the unifying strength of music in bringing together faith and community. Our journey through the Lenten repertoire, magnificently delivered by our talented performers and warmly received by our audience, showcased the profound impact of shared musical experiences. This concert not only celebrated our rich traditions but also underscored music’s role in inspiring unity and reflection, which are hallmarks of the Lenten season.”

His Eminence Archbishop Elpidophoros was among those in attendance and said: “Let us take from this wonderful concert the inspired meaning of these songs of the Lord that are able to transform our lives. With such songs in our hearts, we can even transform the world, as we pray in the Lord’s Prayer: ‘Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.’”

For those who missed it, the concert will be available online and on-demand for streaming any time between April 2-17. For tickets, visit www.archcathedralchoir.com.
