The A. Fantis School of Brooklyn Celebrates Greek Independence

BROOKLYN – With songs presented by the chorus, theatrical performances, dance, and historical narratives, the Greek American Day School ‘Argyrios Fantis’ of the Cathedral of Saints Constantine and Helen community in Brooklyn honored the Greek Independence Day on Thursday, March 21. The principal, Theodore G. Tasoulas, congratulated the Greek Department for the outstanding program they organized, Evie Dimitriadou, Evangelos Chaziroglu, Taso Gementzopoulos, and Theo Alvanos, as well as the students for their efforts.

The Dean of the Cathedral Fr. Evagoras Konstantinidis, mentioned through The National Herald, that all Hellenism honors and glorifies the struggles of the heroes of ’21 for the freedom of the homeland. As he said, “for centuries the enslaved Greeks suffered, sacrificed, but never lost their Christian faith, and I believe that freedom and independence are non-negotiable.”

The vice principal, Panagiota Lilikaki, spoke to the newspaper about the school’s main goals, which are to keep the Greek language and identity alive, to create new Philhellenes, and to contribute to the preservation and dissemination of Hellenism and Orthodoxy in America. One of the teachers Evangelos Chaziroglou, emphasized, “the school celebration highlighted our glorious history and sacrifice for freedom. All the students showed their talent and skills in arts and culture. The great double celebration of the Nation, which we honor on March 25th, sends messages of faith, hope, and national uplifting.” The president of the Parish Council Constantine Paravalos, congratulated the administration, faculty, students, and parents and emphasized the church’s continuous support for the school’s work.
