St. Anna Greek School Honors March 25th in Flemington, NJ

March 28, 2024

FLEMINGTON, NJ – On the Feast of the Annunciation of the Virgin Mary and the 203rd anniversary of Greek Independence, the Greek School of St. Anna Greek Orthodox Church in Flemington held their annual celebration.

The students presented poems and songs which were livestreamed to those who could not attend and enjoy the celebration in person.

Presiding priest of the community Fr. Anastasios Kousoulas, in his welcoming statement told The National Herald, said, “In honor of the double celebration of the Annunciation of the Virgin Mary and the Day of Greek Independence, the Greek school of St. Anna’s once again offered a very beautiful program full of songs, readings and poems in Greek, reminding us of the importance of the day.”

“The youngest members of the parish continue to inspire us with these important annual celebrations that include their families and the entire community of St. Anna,” he said. “We are blessed.”

Student Richard Olsen, 11 years old, said that he feels happy that Greece is not a slave to the Turks and the Revolution was fought so that Greeks can live free today.

He likes the Greek language and traditions and is looking forward to going to Greece in the summer and visiting historical monuments that he is learning about in Greek school.

Student Peter Lydick, 10, is happy to celebrate Greece’s independence because his family is from Greece. Although he does not go to Greece often, he respects the country and likes to learn about its history.
