GOBL: A Winning Season for Holy Cross Whitestone’s JB Black Team

March 21, 2023

WHITESTONE, NY – Based on this year’s regular season standings in the Archdiocese Greek-Orthodox Basketball League, the semi-final in the JB category between the Holy Cross Whitestone Community’s ‘Black’ team and the St. Nicholas Flushing Community’s ‘Blue’ team on March 12 should have been a close game. Both teams had the same number of wins (12) and the same losses (2). But on the court at St. John’s Prep the Whitestone team prevailed relatively easily over the Flushing team as the final 67-38 shows. So Achilleas Frazis, Tommy Stathopoulos, Pavlos Papantoniou, Denis Koumoullos, Nikolaos Paloubis, Vasilios Katsanis, Michael Di Vittorio, Konstantinos Penteliadis, Yiannis Anagnostos, George Manavazian and their coaches Antonis Papantoniou, Gregory Papantoniou, and Stefanos Vouvoudakis faced the Archangel Michael Port Washington Community’s ‘Red’ team in the final. Whitestone won the championship 67-58 on March 19.
