Citizen Protection Min Briefs US, French Ambassadors on Evros Border Challenges

September 29, 2022

ATHENS – Citizen Protection Minister Takis Theodorikakos discussed security challenges Greece faces in its Evros border region with Turkey, with the American and French ambassadors on Wednesday.

In separate meetings he held with US Ambassador George Tsunis and French Ambassador Patrick Maisonneuve, Theodorikakos noted that these challenges relate mostly to the instrumentalization of irregular migrants.

The minister spoke of the government’s measures against this phenomenon, including the ‘Akritas’ plan; this concerns a package of security measures in the Evros area, such as the border fence currently being constructed there, and the use of advanced electronic surveillance equipment.
