Greece: New COVID-19 Cases Spike on Thursday to 50, No Deaths Reported

ATHENS — Fifty new coronavirus cases were confirmed in the last 24 hours, the National Public Health Organization (EODY) said on Thursday, with nearly half relating to people entering Greece by land or air.

Besides the 24 incoming cases from abroad, a sudden rise was noted in the number of new cases, particularly in northern Greece. For example, six cases each were identified in Thessaloniki and Xanthi, one each in Halkidiki peninsula and Rodopi region, and seven in Attica.

Greece's official coronavirus count totals 3,672, of whom 54.6 pct are men. Of these, 919 are linked to travel abroad and 1,948 have been traced to already known cases. The rest have not been traced or are under investigation.

No new deaths were recorded from Covid-19. Coronavirus-related fatalities since January 1 total 193, with the deceased having a median age of 76 years.

Another 9 are intubated in hospitals, with 66.7 pct being men.

The number of diagnostic tests carried out in Greece for the virus total 358,725; of these, 5,839 (or 1.6 pct) were positive. The numbers include retests.

A further subdivision of the total, 38,729 (or 10.8 pct) relate to random testing on incoming airport passengers, as of June 12. Of these, 78 (or 0.2 pct) tested positive.
