ATHENS – Greece’s highest administrative court rejected a demand by jailed terrorist assassin Dimitris Koufodinas to be moved from a high-security prison in the central town of Domokos back to Athens.

Koufodinas, who just ended a 66-day hunger strike he started in protest at being kept at Domokos, wants to go back to the Korydallos Prison where he had been transferred by the former ruling Radical Left SYRIZA to a work farm.

When New Democracy routed SYRIZA in July 7, 2019 snap elections, the Conservative government shipped him to Domokos and ended the practice of giving him vacations from jail after he got six when the Leftists ruled.

The Council of State denied Koufodinas’ appeal to postpone his transfer from a hospital back to Domokos as the government said Korydallos, which was a high-security facility, is a pre-detention facility not suited for violent criminals.

The court said it wasn’t the proper jurisdiction to make a ruling, kicking it back to the criminal courts if he wants to try that avenue after he complained about conditions in Domokos, including other prisoners smoking near him.

Koufodinas’ lawyers cited legislation to back his argument the law allowed him to be transferred to serve his 11 life sentences for killing 11 people, plus another 25 years.

The General Secretariat for Anti-Crime policy says that this legislation does not apply in this case because Korydallos isn’t designed for prisoners like him and others also convicted of serious crimes like terrorism.
