Staikouras: Greece Expects a Lower Rate for Its New 15-Year Bond Issue

October 20, 2020

ATHENS — "Our goal is the achieve an interest rate lower than the 15-year bond issued in February 2020, which was 1.91 pct," Finance Minister Christos Staikouras said on Tuesday. Speaking before the Parliament's Economic Affairs Committee, Staikouras said that beyond the 15-year bonds, "Greece has successfully returned to the markets and managed to borrow a total of 14 billion euros at extremely low interest rates, which reached, in several cases, one third of the rates in previous years".

"We expect that the new 15-year bond issue will have a lower interest rate than the previous issue of February 2020 and this will be another example of market confidence in the Greek economy," he noted.
