January 11, 2021

ATHENS — Athens International Airport on Monday reported a 68.4 pct drop in its passenger traffic in 2020, compared with the previous year, the worst performance ever because of the global pandemic and its impact on air travel.

Passenger traffic fell 60.4 pct in August. International traffic plunged 71.6 pct to 5.06 million passengers in 2020, while domestic traffic fell 61.1 pct to 3.015 million passengers. Passenger traffic totaled 8.08 million in 2020, after a record of 25.57 million in 2019. In December, passenger traffic fell 85.6 pct to 236,000 passengers.
