Nearly 10,000 Queens Voters Sign Petitions to Get Costa Constantinides on Ballot

January 15, 2020

QUEENS, NY – Team Costa announced on January 14 that almost 10,000 registered voters in Queens signed petitions to get Costa Constantinides on the ballot for the Borough President special election on March 24. The strong filing far surpassed the campaign’s target and was nearly five times the required 2,000 signatures to appear on the ticket.

“Over the last 12 days, Queens residents resoundingly showed they’re ready to transform Queens,” said Patrick Jordan, Campaign Manager for Constantinides. “Our team, supported by dozens of amazing volunteers, were in every corner of this borough to share Costa’s plan to truly combat climate change, create 50,000 union jobs, and bring our education system into the 21st Century. Whether it was Jamaica, Bayside, or Jackson Heights, our neighbors showed they’re ready for meaningful action on March 24.”

From Monday, Jan. 6 through Sunday, Jan. 12, campaign staff and volunteers collected nearly 7,000 more signatures from throughout the borough. That came after Team Costa grabbed more than 2,700 in the three days after Mayor de Blasio called the special election on Jan. 2.

Costa Constantinides currently serves in the New York City Council, where he represents western Queens and chairs the Committee on Environmental Protection. His legislative accomplishments include the Climate Mobilization Act, a Green New Deal for New York City, as well as the historic 80% reduction by 2050 of carbon emissions commitment. Costa lives in his native Astoria with his wife and son.
