ATHENS – SYRIZA spokesperson Alexis Charitsis described the creation of a 37-billion-euro cash buffer an action of national responsibility on the part of main opposition SYRIZA, while speaking to radio Athina 9.84 on Wednesday. He urged the government to take advantage of the cash buffer to support the Greek economy.

Charitsis noted that the crisis could well prove to be structural for Greek society and the economy, adding that “the measures should also have a structural nature as you can’t treat a pandemic with aspirins.”

He underlined the need for the EU to assume its own responsibilities, noting that the European Commision has fallen short of expectations and that the Eurogroup’s decisions “increases our concerns”.

“Greece should not wait for Europe to address the challenges of the times,” the spokesperson added.

Charitsis said that the government should take advantage of the 37 billion euros cash buffer because the health system must remain upright.
