Two Hundred People Still Trapped on Attiki Odos

January 25, 2022

ATHENS – Two hundred people and 100 vehicles remained trapped on Attiki Odos on Tuesday morning, the Operations Manager of the company Attikes Diadromes Aristophanes Papadimitriou said.

Papadimitriou expressed the opinion that “any plan we had was almost impossible to carry out with so many trucks and cars in the network”. He said that trucks were banned from entering Attiki Odos at 14:00 on Monday afternoon, whereas the same ban on the Nea Odos toll road had started at 09:00 on Monday morning.

According to Papadimitriou, the weather conditions were difficult to manage and unprecedented, while he admitted that “possibly we delayed”. “As Attiki Odos we feel uncomfortable and very bad about what happened. We have never had a problem in 20 years of operation, we were an example for everyone,” he added.

Finally, regarding the demands for compensation from the company that are expected to be made, he stated: “We are prepared for everything”.
