SYRIZA’s Iliopoulos Says the Government “Must Stop Lying”

ATHENS — Main opposition SYRIZA-Progressive Alliance spokesperson Nassos Iliopoulos said the government "must stop lying to people and constantly cultivating a fake climate of optimism," in an interview with Kontra TV late on Wednesday.

The SYRIZA spokesperson described the prime minister's televised message earlier the same day as "a source of concern", claiming that the prime minister "once again proved he is incapable of self-criticism", while adding that Mitsotakis "has lost all control of the pandemic and the trust of society".

He stated that "between November and today, in one of the harshest lockdowns, we have mourned the deaths of over 9,000 of our fellow human beings," Iliopoulos said, "but once every month Mr. Mitsotakis insists on announcing the end of the battle with the pandemic, an end that never arrives."
