SYRIZA Criticises Georgiadis for Comparing Pandemic Figures in Greece, Belgium

November 23, 2020

ATHENS — "The minister who admitted that his government made a mistake when opening tourism, today declares with inconceivable audacity that he is celebrating because 'we are doing 12 times better than Belgium'," main opposition SYRIZA-Progressive Alliance said in a statement released on Monday.

"Mr. Georgiadis is celebrating at a time when our country is losing more than 100 people a day, the national health system has collapsed with the sole responsibility of his government, while yesterday our country had the 10th worst performance in the world for deaths in proportion to its population and, according to ECDC figures, in the last 14 days Greece is 17th worst in the EU in terms of deaths per population, having outstripped 14 countries that were doing worse until mid-October."
