Retail Sales Volume Up 19.4% in December

ATHENS – Retail sales volume rose 19.4% in December 2021, with only supermarkets reporting a negative performance, Hellenic Statistical Authority said on Monday. More specifically, retail sales grew 124.9% in clothing-footwear, 63.5% in bookstores, 29.1% in furniture-electrical appliances-home equipment, 24.4% in cosmetics-pharmaceuticals, 22.2% in fuel-lubricants, 5% in department stores and 0.9% in food-beverage-tobacco. On the other hand, supermarket sales dropped 2.8% in the month.

The retail sales volume index (turnover in fixed prices) rose 19.4% in December 2021 compared with the same month in 2020, but grew 9.4% from November 2021. The seasonally-adjusted index rose 0.8% in December from November 2021.

The retail sales turnover index (turnover in current prices) rose 23.8% in December 20201 compared with the same month in 2020, but rose 10.2% from November 2021. The seasonally-adjusted index rose 0.6% in December from November 2021.
