PM Kyriakos Mitsotakis Visits Corinth Canal

ATHENS — Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis on Saturday visited the Corinth Canal, which is closed due to landslides, in order to be briefed on the restoration plan that is in progress.

"After many many years, a substantial intervention is held at the Canal of total cost 9 million euros" stated the prime minister.

"It is a very important project and we should not forget that it was built in the 19th century and now, in the 21th century, the time has come for the necessary interventions" Mitsotakis underlined.

The Corinth Canal, one of the three existing artificial canals in the world is of crucial importance for the trade and transport.

Mitsotakis who is touring the region of Corinth on Saturday visited crops damaged by the frost in the area of Spathovouni. Earlier, he visited an industry unit.

The prime minister spoke with farmers and after saying that "the frost created serious damage in the farming production in many areas of our country" he committed that "the recording of the damages to be held with accuracy and the producers to be compensated fast and with justice'.

Earlier, Mistotakis visited the industry unit Calpak (solar systems, solar water heaters) where he was briefed on the extrovert character of the industry, its adaptation to the changes brought by the technological progress as well as on the protection measures against COVID-19 while on his part, Mitsotakis underlined the progress in Greek 'green' technologies.
