Peloni: EU Must Show Unity; There Must Be Consequences for Incident in Belarus

ATHENS — "Greece has condemned this act of state hijacking of an aircraft, which has no precedent, from the first moment. What happened is unbelievable, it will obviously be discussed in the European Council. There must be consequences for this behaviour," underlined government spokesperson Aristotelia Peloni in an interview on Monday with Parapolitika FM, regarding the diversion and forced landing of a passenger plane in Belarus.

"Europe should send a strong message and show that it's united regarding this very serious incident, which touches on issues of democracy, the rule of law and human rights," she added, noting that this was a matter of principle fo the EU.

On the issue of data security on the Greek state web portal gov.gr, Peloni disputed the claims of a security gap as groundless and said that Digital Governance MInister Kyriakos Pierrakakis will be making a statement about the issue.
