Nine Scheduled International Flights Expected at Chania, Crete

CHANIA, Greece — Daskalogiannis Airport at Chania is "opening" on Wednesday with nine scheduled international flights, welcoming the first visitors from Lithuania, Germany, Romania, France, Ireland, Austria and Denmark.

At 10:00 a.m., Ryanair's FR 5338 flight from Vilnius, Lithuania, arrived at Chania airport, carrying 126 passengers. The first visitors arrived observing the security protocol and stated that they chose Crete for their vacation as it is a safe area. At the same time, they stressed that Greece has properly managed the pandemic by taking appropriate measures, so it is a safe destination.

The next flight is expected at Chania at 11:50. This is a flight of Easy Jet from Berlin that will carry 164 passengers.

At Daskalogiannis Airport, as at other airports in the country, all measures are being taken to ensure public health, while on a daily basis 275 samples will be taken from passengers coming from abroad, which will be tested for coronavirus. Samples will be taken by Navy medical personnel with the assistance of Greek Police, Fire, Fraport and Civil Aviation Service personnel. Passenger tests and inspections are carried out in specially designed areas of the airport.
