Near Harrisburg? The Politsopoulos Family Invites You to Eat Greek

Known for operating a Greek food booth under the name Yianni’s Gyros at Hershey Towne Square in Derry Township, the Politsopoulos family will open a new Yianni’s Gyros at the Union Square Shopping Center in Susquehanna Township. It specializes in authentic homemade foods such as stuffed grape leaves, Greek salads, spinach pies and souvlaki.

“It’s what we know, it’s what we grew up on,” said John Politsopoulos, owner with his wife, Amanda, and his parents, Chris and Maria Politsopoulos, said PennLive.

They’re a busy bunch, also running John’s Diner in Fairview Township, a mix of Greek food and traditional diner favorites.

The family built their presence using delivery services to bring those gyros and Greek pastries right to your door and John Politsopoulos said the new opening will give them a triangle connection to the Harrisburg area.

“There’s no Greek cuisine there, so we’ll bring a touch of the Mediterranean,” Amanda Politsopoulos said. That includes desserts made by Maria Politsopoulos, including baklava, baklava cheesecake, and ek-mek, a pastry made with kataifi soaked in honey syrup topped with vanilla custard pudding, whipped cream, and toasted almonds. “She definitely knows how to bake. She’s amazing,” Amanda Politsopoulos said.
