Mitsotakis’ Message on Release of Greek Edition of “The Promised Land” by Obama

December 15, 2020

ATHENS — Former US President Barack Obama wrote in his book, "The Promised Land", of the agonizing questions a leader goes through about whether he has made the rightdecisions, Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis said on Tuesday.

The newly released book also reveals the collective power of working together, as in the electoral campaign motto of "Yes, we can", Mitsotakis said, in a videotaped message at the Greek edition's presentation in Athens.

Calling former US President Barack Obama "a gifted orator and a structured narrator", the premier said the book provides insights on how an outsider became a first-class leader. Mitsotakis also noted Obama's "faith in modesty". As he noted, "The first black president of the US admits that he was always a reformer, not a revolutionary. He was a fan of the free economy, without hesitating however, in the case of the car industry, to temporarily nationalize it in order to rescue it. And, of course, he also brought up the private sector before its responsibilities after the ecological disaster of the Gulf of Mexico in 2010."
