Golden Dawn Leader’s Wife Charged with Faking Record for Parliament Job

November 19, 2020

ATHENS – Eleni Zaroulia, wife of jailed Golden Dawn Leader Nikos Michaloliakos, was appointed to a job in Parliament shortly before receiving a six-year suspended sentence for being in a criminal gang, as a prosecutor said she falsified her record to get the position.

It wasn't explained how she was able to get a temporary job even while on trial but Parliament Speaker Kostas Tasoulas – who revoked her appointment on Oct. 9 made a complaint to a prosecutor alleging she also made false statements.

She faces a criminal lawsuit but it wasn't said if that would lead to lifting of the suspended sentence and also being sent to jail. Tasoulas revoked her appointment on Oct. 9 but it wasn't said who named her to the job, what it was and how much she was being paid, nor what she claimed to get the position.

Her husband and other former lawmakers for the neo-Nazi party were sentenced after being convicted of running a criminal gang but one of them, second-in-command Christos Pappas, fled and is a fugitive from the law even now.
