Dr. Theodore Giannaris Was Found Dead

NEW YORK – Dr. Theodore Giannaris, the 81-year-old who was missing since June 7 in Manhattan was found dead. His son, Dr. Dimitris Giannaris, who on behalf of his family identified his father for the authorities, spoke to The National Herald and confirmed the sad news.

Dimitris Giannaris told TNH that he had been informed since Thursday morning that, unfortunately, the case of the disappearance of the much-loved expatriate doctor had a tragic outcome, but the family asked for a little extra time until the identification was made.

As he mentioned in TNH, there was a general mobilization after the publication of the issue and the body of the 81-year-old doctor was found by the authorities. The family was notified on Wednesday and on Thursday made the confirmation.

Dr. Theodoros Giannaris will be remembered as a compassionate man and an excellent doctor, his son noted.

“He was a humble man, full of compassion and philanthropy. He performed many surgeries pro-bono and spent his time caring for people who could not afford treatment. Everyone in New York respected him as an orthopedist and as a person, and in the managerial positions in hospitals in New York where he worked,” said Dimitris Giannaris.

Dr. Giannaris also had many famous patients in his care, including Frank Serpico and the late "Superman" of the big screen, Christopher Reeve.

“In the midst of this wave of love, thoughts and prayer, I would like to thank everyone who had us in their thoughts during these difficult times. It showed us that we have a lot of friends. My father was a man who was loved and respected by everyone who met him. This is the truth,” concluded Giannaris.

So far, the circumstances of the 81-year-old's death have not yet been determined, nor the exact cause of death, which is expected to be clarified in the coming days.

It should also be noted that the deceased was the uncle of the New York State Senator Michael Gianaris.
