Dominant Asteras FC eliminated from LISFL D1 cup in Penalty Kicks.

For the second week in a row Asteras FC we’re reduced to 10 men… not for red cards but because of injuries. Asteras FC have sought to replenish their roster after a string of injuries to Gerasimos Zhsimatos, Panagiotis Folias, Gilbert Benjamin, Jose Gomez, Yiannis Kefalas, Evangelos Pachis and Captain Demetris Nikitopoulos. Notable absentees for the week were also Nikos Kaouris and Keanu Bellamy. This left President Evangelos Kragouras with the only option of looking to replenish his roster for the match against Ronkokoma. As such Asteras FC Over 30 Yiannis Lolos was called up and Demetris Papas was newly acquired. Coach Kostas utilized his roster as well as he could against a powerful Ronkokoma Fusion. Asteras FC pressed and the connection of Nikos Psarras and forward Demetri Papas created many problems For Ronkokoma back line. Asteras FC may have opened the score at the 24th minute from a shot by “10” Nikos Psarras hit the upright and clearly passed the line but the goal was disallowed and the score remained 0-0 till the half. Asteras FC continued to press and hit the post 2 more times in the second half from shots by Demetri Papas and Ralph Hoyos. Goal keeper Costantinos Aprilakis played brilliantly but a mild strain required him to be subbed off and Asteras FC utilized their last and only sub… back up goalie Constantine Pougiouklidis. Exhausted and with out subs, l Asteras FC was again reduced to 10 men following a hamstring injury to Demetri Papas and played the remaining 10 minutes a man down. This did not stop Asteras FC from continuing their assault as a shot at the 92nd from Demetri Mihalatos was beautiful saved by the Ronkokoma goalie and the ball fell close to the line with no Asteras FC player to push it in. Following the full 90 Asteras FC won the coin toss for Penalty kicks and opened the shootout with a save by backup goalie Constantine Pougiouklidis. This was not enough as Asteras FC ended up losing 3-4 in penalty kicks and ultimately knocked out of the League Cup.

Notables of the game were Asteras FCs back line Panagiotis Vlahos, Yiannis Lolos, Nikos Tornambinis and Demetri Mihalatos which allowed 4 shots on goal for the entirety of the game.
