Papathanassis: Market Pass Will Be Granted without a Purchase Obligation

January 18, 2023

ATHENS – Alternate Development and Investments Minister Nikos Papathanassis clarified on Wednesday in an interview with ANT1 TV that the Market Pass will be granted without a purchase obligation.

He said that the “the hike in prices eats up the income of the citizens” adding that “we can’t cover 100 percent of the increases in the market but with targetted measures we support the income of the most vulnerable citizens”.

On the ‘household basket’, he said that the new prices announced today show that 89 pct of the products prices remained stable, 6 percent of the goods dropped and 5 percent of the prices have increased. He also added that the average value of the household basket is the lowest since the implementation of the household basket 12 weeks ago.

Asked on the high prices in food, Papathanassis explained that “the government can’t impose tariffs because probably there will be shortages on the shelves”.
