NEW YORK – Family and friends are concerned over the fate of two elderly Greek-Americans who were reported missing to the police.

The 70-year-old Panagiotis Mouchlizis was last seen at 4:30 PM on December 20 walking towards the north side of Crescent Street at Ditmars Boulevard, while the 80-year-old Athanasios Athanasiou of South Farmingdale disappeared the same day at 6:20 PM.

Missing for 25 Years

According to information from his family, Mouchlizis is dealing with health problems and it is very likely that he has lost his way, while reliable communication with him is relatively difficult.

Mouchlizis was in New York with one of his two sons, George Mouchlizis, who had planned to travel with him to Greece in order to visit, after decades, their relatives in his home town. According to the same source, the story of the 70-year-old is particularly remarkable, since he was missing from his family for 25 years, some of which he allegedly lived as a homeless person. In fact, his son George, claims that he was informed of his fate by an acquaintance, who saw the 70-year-old in a television report from a homeless shelter. His relatives who had lost touch with him and had thought he had died, now had the possibility to see him again.

Persons close to the Mouchlizis family reported to The National Herald that George had planned to leave for Greece last Saturday. Nevertheless, when Panagiotis Mouchlizis was finally able to go to Kennedy Airport, it was reported that their passports were lost, as well as the amount of $7,000 in cash. In fact, although the passports were found and handed over to the police, the fate of the cash remains unclear.

As mentioned above, Panagiotis Mouchlizis suffers from health problems such as dementia, but also some psychiatric issues, which developed from his many years on the streets. He has been without his needed medication at least for the last 48 hours.
