President Sakellaropoulou: Fight for Democracy Is Constant and Demanding

November 17, 2022

ATHENS – President of the Hellenic Republic Katerina Sakellaropoulou on Thursday laid a wreath at the Polytechnic monument, honouring the 49th anniversary of the students uprising against the military junta then ruling Greece.

“The Polytechnic uprising was the beginning of the end for the seven-year junta and the foundation for the post-dictatorship era. It symbolises political freedom and reminds us that the fight for democracy is constant and demanding,” Sakellaropoulou said.

“Honouring the memory of the victims, the students and the fighters of the Polytechnic, we recognise our duty to safeguard the quality of the institutions and the open perspective of our society,” she concluded.
