ATHENS – The health benefits of oregano, Chios mastic, and Greek extra virgin olive oil are well-known. Now the Greek company Physis & Ideas has combined them in one food supplement, Oreganic Plus Mastic capsules. Dimitris Savvidis is the exclusive representative of Physis & Ideas in the United States and spoke with The National Herald about Oreganic Plus Mastic.

TNH: How would you characterize the Oreganic Plus Mastic by the Greek company Physis & Ideas?

Dimitris Savvidis: Oregano essential oil is well known for helping the body fight viruses, bacteria, parasites, fungi, free radicals and more. We discovered that essential oregano oil's effectiveness is increased when combined with the essential oil of Chios mastic tree resin. It is like they are made for each other! The blend is diluted in extra virgin olive oil from Kalamata, that improves the whole nutritional value of the product. Furthermore, it is available in soft capsules. Each capsule has a carefully defined amount of each oil to constitute a safe and adequate daily dose. It is the only product in its class offered in separate capsules in a comfort blister pack. 

TNH: How does Oreganic Plus Mastic naturally protect our health by boosting our immune system?

DS: First of all, the oils are extracted from organic Greek oregano and high-quality Chios mastic through steam distillation, which means the best possible preservation of their beneficial properties. In addition to the phenols carvacrol and thymol that are extremely effective against germs and viruses, our essential oils contain vitamins A, C, E, and K. It is also crucial that germs do not develop resistance to oregano or mastic. Less antibiotics, more protection!

TNH: Apart from strengthening the “defense system" of the body, what else does it offer us?

DS: The mixture of essential oils of Greek oregano and Chios mastic have expectorant, anti-diarrheal, anti-inflammatory, antibacterial, and anti-hemorrhagic abilities. It relieves spasms and hiccups, facilitates digestion and the respiratory system. It also has a remarkable effect for women; it works as an antispasmodic and tonic in the uterus. It helps reduce intestinal parasites and stimulates the digestive system. Helps maintain cell health by blocking the action of free radicals. The capsule can also be chewed, rinsing with water, to assist in oral hygiene, for sore throats, coughs, gingivitis, mouth ulcers, and herpes.

TNH: Who should take Oreganic Plus Mastic and who should not? And what should those who use it be aware of?

DS: Oregano Plus Mastic is appropriate for adults and children. One daily capsule is a great habit but if someone notices symptoms of a cold, cough or sore throat, the dose can be increased to three capsules, always after a meal, for two or three days. 

Some cautions: it is not recommended for women who are pregnant or breastfeeding or people who are allergic to oregano or mastic. Also, it is better for those who have low iron to take it two hours before or two hours after eating. For those who have particular health problems, it is always best to consult their doctor.
