ATHENS – Main opposition New Democracy (ND) spokeswoman Maria Spyraki on Friday said that her party demands that ample light be shed on the Novartis case and sternly accused the government of conspiring and attempting to sully the reputation of its political rivals.

Briefing the press, ND’s spokeswoman presented a series of events that, according to the party, appear to indicate government intervention during the course of justice’s investigation.

“We demand an immediate clarification of the case,” she said.

Spyraki also attacked the government over the furlough given to convicted terrorist Dimitris Koufodinas, noting that the government is arranging for his release from jail and making it clear that ND will not permit this.

Regarding the interest rate of the seven-year bond issued by Greece on Thursday, Spyraki noted that Portugal, Cyprus and Ireland currently borrow at significantly lower rates. “After 2018 the country will have a new memorandum without funding,” concluded Spyraki.
