Greek President, PM and Foreign Ministry Congratulate Biden-Harris on Winning US Elections

ATHENS — President of the Hellenic Republic Katerina Sakellaropoulou, Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis and the Greek foreign ministry congratulated Joe Biden and his running mate Kamala Harris on winning the US elections with a series of tweets after the result was called on Saturday evening.

"Congratulations to @JoeBiden, new President-Elect of the USA and @KamalaHarris, first female Vice-President. Looking forward to extending our cooperation and friendship under your presidency. Welcoming the US again to the #ParisAgreement on climate change is the first step!" President Sakellaropoulou said in an official presidency tweet.

Prime Minister Mitsotakis, in a message with the Greek and United States flags, described Biden as a "true friend of Greece":

"Congratulations to US President-Elect @JoeBiden. Joe Biden has been a true friend of Greece and I’m certain that under his presidency the relationship between our countries will grow even stronger."

Greek-US ties were also highlighted in congratulatory posts by the foreign ministry, one for Biden and a second for Harris:

"We extend our warmest congratulations to US President-Elect @JoeBiden. We look forward to working together w/ the new US administration to keep on enhancing the excellent 🇬🇷🇺🇸partnership & further strengthen 🇪🇺🇺🇸 ties@USEmbassyAthens."

"A special message of congratulations to @KamalaHarris on her election as Vice-President of the United States, the first woman to ever be elected in this office. We look forward to working together to advance strong 🇬🇷🇺🇸 ties founded on historic friendship & shared values."
