Tsipras Criticize Greek Gov’t for High School E-Platform Crash

November 9, 2020

ATHENS — Main opposition SYRIZA-Progressive Alliance accused government spokesman Stelios Petsas of "unbelievable brazenness" for terming calls for the Education minister's resignation "a joke" following problems with e-learning on Monday.

The main opposition said attempts to cover the failure of the minister to adequately prepare a platform for high school students, and for failing to test-run it before classes on Monday, were "ridiculous" and more tragic than funny, for thousands of families with students.

In a similar vein, Syriza leader Alexis Tsipras said that the so-called organized government "continues to lend itself to ridicule", starting with the distribution of oversized face masks in school to the failure to take advantage of time since the last lockdown in spring and organize distance learning better.

In an Instagram post, Tsipras said that "the educational platform touted so highly by the minister of Education (…) crashed a few minutes after starting, despite the ridiculous advisories to citizens to refrain from logging onto social media and streaming platforms at crux times to prevent the internet from overloading."

Among other things, he said, the government forgets that "thousands of families don't have high-speed internat and some families don't have computers, while tens of thousands of others are unable to buy a second or third computer to cope."

The government introduced a nationwide lockdown on Saturday until November 30, with distance learning for students from 7th grade on and a high percentage of employees working from home.
