Parliament President Responds to Polakis’ Criticism on Number of ICU Beds at Greek Hospital

November 12, 2020

ATHENS — Parliament President Constantine Tassoulas on Thursday responded to allegations by former SYRIZA-Progressive Alliance deputy health minister Pavlos Polakis who claimed in social media the official had lied when he told Parliament that "Sotiria" Hospital in Athens has 50 ICU beds.

Tassoulas formally submitted a letter to parliament, sent to him by Director of Sotiria Hospital of Thoracic Diseases Sokratis Mitsiadis, in which the latter outlined that Sotiria has a total of 79 ICU beds in all departments, with another 5 to be added by year's end. Currently, 40 of the 79 beds are occupied, Mitsiadis noted.
