December 13, 2020

ATHENS — President of the Hellenic Republic Katerina Sakellaropoulou, in a letter to Kalavryta Mayor Athanasios Papadopoulos, expressed her sorrow that she will be unable to attend the Kalavryta Massacre memorial service on Sunday, due to the restrictions in place to contain the spread of Covid-19.

In her letter, the president noted that the Kalavryta Massacre, the greatest Nazi atrocity committed on Greek soil, has been indelibly carved into the historic and collective consciousness of the Greek people.

She also underlined that the righteous fight for reparations remain active in the memory of those so unjustly killed and that she greatly looks forward to visiting Kalavryta as soon as the conditions permit.
