BRUSSELS – European Commissioner for Economy Paolo Gentiloni said on Thursday that the Greek economy is well on track.

Gentiloni made the statement during the presentation of the Winter 2020 Interim Economic Forecast for the EU economy.

Asked how he would describe the situation of the Greek economy after his recent visit to Greece, he said that the Greek economy has suffered a lot and conditions were diffucult for many years, but now it is well on track.

He underlined that there was a positive climate and a positive impression in the country during all his meetings. He explained that this does not mean that all problems have been solved but the results are positive and the impact on financial markets are clear.

Gentiloni estimated that the last visit of the EU mission to Greece will end with a positive report, which will clear the way in June so that the Eurogroup can take a positive decision on Greece’s likely use of the EU FSMPs for investment.
