ATHENS — Greek and foreign leaders laid wreaths at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier before Parliament on Thursday, Greek Independence Day, during celebrations for the 200th anniversary of the Greek Revolution (1821).

President of the Hellenic Republic Katerina Sakellaropoulou laid a wreath, followed by wreath-laying by Cyprus President Nicos Anastasiades, Prince Charles of Wales, Russian Federation Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin, and French Defense Minister Florence Parly. All represent countries that contributed to the Greek War for Independence.

After the Evzones national guard withdrew from the site, the officials remain to follow the military parade that is scheduled for 10:00 a.m.

The parade will bring the two-day celebrations to a conclusion, while the French frigate 'Languedoc' and the Russian one 'Admiral Fiota Kasatov' are docked at Piraeus to honor the anniversary.

During the parade, fighter jets and helicopters will fly over various sections of Greece, from 10:00 to 11:00.

Greek President also met with Prince Charles, heir to the British throne, at the Presidential Mansion on Thursday, Greek Independence Day, and paid a visit to the presidential guard (Evzones).

The two officials inspected the presidential guard and were given a tour of an exhibit on its history.
