Markakis on Astros Cheating Scandal: “Every Single Guy over there Needs a Beating” (Vid)

February 26, 2020

NORTH PORT, FL – Greek-American Atlanta Braves outfielder Nick Markakis on February 18 commented on the Houston Astros’ cheating scandal, noting that “to see something like that, it’s damaging to baseball. It’s anger. I feel like every single guy over there needs a beating. It’s wrong. They’re messing with people’s careers,” USA Today reported.

Markakis at age 36 is starting his 15th year in Majot League Baseball (MLB) and as USA Today reported, “ranks fourth among active players with 2,355 career hits.”

Asked about Markakis’ comments, Astros manager Dusty Baker said, “That’s cool. I ain’t commenting on everybody’s comments. Go ahead. You want to beat on us, go ahead,” ESPN reported.

Markakis also said that “there’s right ways to do it and wrong ways to do it, I 100% disagree with way they did it. There’s a lot of people that were hurt by it, and it was wrong,” ESPN reported.

There is also the feeling that “the Astros players got off ‘scot-free,’” ESPN reported, adding that Markakis “also pointed a finger at MLB commissioner Rob Manfred.”

“The way he handled the situation, he should be embarrassed of himself,” Markakis said, ESPN reported.

In recent days, the idea that some players may “seek retribution against the Astros” led Baker to ask MLB to “protect his team’s players,” USA Today reported.

Baker said, USA Today reported, “I’m depending on the league to try to put a stop to this seemingly premeditated retaliation that I’m hearing about, and in most instances in life, you get kind of reprimanded when you have premeditated anything. I’m just hoping that the league puts a stop to this before somebody gets hurt.”

Commissioner Manfred also “voiced his concerns about the potential for retaliation,” USA Today reported.

Manfred said, “I hope I made it extremely clear that retaliation will not be tolerated. It is dangerous and it is not helpful to the current situation,” USA Today reported.
