Greensboro Greek Festival Like Greek Village

October 15, 2019

Greensboro, NC is well known for its Greek community and one of the most anticipated events of the year is the Greek festival that turns the of Dormition of the Theotokos Greek Orthodox Church into a Greek village, again this year for the recent event.

It is hosted by the parishioners and has spilled over from church grounds into an adjacent lot and has become a big event featuring authentic Greek cuisine, pastries, live traditional music and dancing, said Rhino Times in a report.

There’s a $1 admission charge waived if you brought a non-perishable food item for the Second Harvest Food Bank, and children under 12 get in free when accompanied by a parent or guardian.

The specialties included food from gyros and spanakopita to roasted lamb and pastichio and one of the big draws is the renowned desserts, especially homemade baklava, and as many as 12 other pastries, also available to be taken away.

Live entertainment was the atmosphere centerpiece and took place on an outdoor stage and there were dance performances by the youth of the parish and guided tours of the church as well as kids face painting.
