Noted Restaurateur Tomazos Opens Venice, Calif. Spot

August 17, 2019

Carlos Tomazos, nominated for the prestigious James Beard Foundation restaurant award in 2011, has opened ELA Greek Eats in Venice, California, including his menu favorites such as a layered moussaka, lamb shank youvetsi and spanakopita, said the news site Patch.

There will also be salads, gyros, dips and spreads with pita, along with a variety of gluten-free options and vegan dishes. There are also takes on including pligouri with quinoa, roasted red peppers, scallions and almonds and a tourlou tourlou medley of seasonal vegeteables and cauliflower kapama among other specialties that were offered at his former restaurant Inotheke in Santa Monica.

Zagat reviews lauded Inothke’s oven-roasted beets with goat cheese and lemon vinaigrette, and Cyprus-inspired classics like tyropitakia (phyllo stuffed with Haloumi and Kasseri cheeses), and potted duck with walnuts and orange-cardamom marmalade, as well as shrimp saganaki.

Tomazos worked in the hospitality industry abroad and in New York City before moving to Los Angeles. He teamed with Brendan Collins with their former Waterloo & City gastropub in Culver City that was designed as a meeting place with lots of pints of beer but has returned to his roots: Greek food.
