NEW YORK – Meropi Kyriacou, the new Principal of The Cathedral School in Manhattan, was honored as The National Herald’s Educator of the Year.

I noticed Antonis H. Diamataris’ inclusion of Spiro Agnew in his “Observations” column in the May 19-25 issue of The National Herald citing successful Greek American political figures.
Yes, we can be proud of Madeline Singas, Michael Gianaris, Michael Dukakis, Paul Tsongas, Paul Sarbanes, John Sarbanes, Olympia Snowe and others. But a Vice President who resigned in disgrace over tax and corruption issues? And not only that, he really didn’t identify himself as Greek American until in office and certainly not as Greek Orthodox.
