Turkish F-16s Infringe Athens FIR, Fly Over Islands of Panagia and Oinousses

Two Turkish F-16s entered the Athens Flight Information Region (FIR) at 15.14 on Wednesday without submitting flight plans and one of them flew over the northeastern edge of Chios island at an altitude of 20,000 feet, Hellenic National Defence General Staff (HNDGS) said.

Earlier in the day, another two Turkish F-16s entered the Athens FIR without submitting flight plans and at 13:31 flew over the islands of Panagia and Oinousses, northeast of the island of Chios, at altitude of 26,500 feet.

On August 26, two Turkish F-16s and two Turkish F-4s flew over Anthropofagi Islands and Makronisi, the first pair at 22,400 feet and the second at 10,000 feet.

In all cases, he Turkish aircraft were recognised and intercepted by Greek fighter planes in accordance with international rules, following standard practice, HNDGS said.
