Strong Firefighting Forces Remain in Gortynia and Ilia

PYRGOS — Approximately 680 firefighters are battling the blaze in Gortynia and in the neighbouring Ilia region and specifically in the municipality of Ancient Olympia on Thursday.

According to the Fire Brigade, a total of 218 fire engines with a 678-member crew and 30 teams of firefighters on foot assisted by three firefighting aircraft and two helicopters are dousing the fire.

Among the mentioned forces are 14 fire engines with a 35-member crew from the Czech Republic, 21 firemen from the UK, 59 fire engines with a 200-member crew from France, 18 fire engines with a 57-member crew from Germany and 16 fire-engines with 39-member crew from Austria.
