ATHENS — From June 23 to November 7, 2021 the Stavros Niarchos Foundation Cultural Center (SNFCC), in collaboration with the Takis Foundation – Research Center for Art and Science (KETE), will present a large exhibition of emblematic sculptures by the internationally renowned sculptor Takis (Panagiotis Vasilakis, 1925-2019).

The exhibition entitled "Takis: World on the Move" will be presented using a grant from the Stavros Niarchos Foundation. It will feature 46 representative works by the leading Greek artist placed in SNFCC public spaces, thus providing a comprehensive introduction to his work for the new generation, but also a new view of the importance of his work for those who already know it.

The intention behind SNFCC exhibitions since it the centre started operating has been to redefine the public's relationship with public space and to highlight the importance of art within this. Returning after a long hiatus to the physical dimension of the visual art experience, the Takis sculptures aim to begin a conversation with visitors and the SNFCC building designed by Renzo Piano, in a place of interaction and meeting of people of all ages.

The works of the exhibition include Takis' emblematic Wind Turbines, Archimedes Light Signal and Screws, Fireworks, but also his representative works from the sections of Musical Sculptures, Magnetic Walls-Fourth Dimension, Spirals, Electric Barrels, Flowers and Spheres.

The works together, and each separately, form a "world in motion", a world that visitors can explore and connect with, in an exhibition that focuses, among other things, on the artist's involvement with physical laws, with the cosmic forces of the universe, in its attempt to materially define its invisible forces. Takis' work emerges from the synthesis of a wide range of ideas and experiences – from intensive scientific research to ancient philosophy and spirituality – and forges a unique vision that continues to evolve even today through our interaction with his work.

As part of the exhibition, the SNFCC will carry out educational and school programmes, as well as workshops for children and adults starting with Takis' sculptures.
