Shipowner Panos Lascaridis Resigns from Union of Greek Shipowners

ΑΤΗΕΝS — Shipowner Panagiotis (Panos) Lascaridis submitted his resignation from the Union of Greek Shipowners and its board of directors on Tuesday for controversial statements reported by the media.

In a statement, he criticised "the character assassination attempts some people have undertaken through the union, in tandem with various so-called reliable media," adding that he staunchly believed in the significance of Greek shipping, and respected the institutions of the country.

In a reply later in the day, the union's board unanimously accepted his resignation and rejected what it called "his unfounded and provocative claims."
