Omirou Declares People of Cyprus Will Never be Reconciled with Occupation

Yiannakis Omirou, the president of the parliament of the Republic of Cyprus, said Greek Cypriots will never be reconciled with the occupation of their country and condemned efforts to legalize the Turkish fait accompli.

Omirou spoke at the annual memorial service the community Statos – Agios Fotios.

“Our duty, toward their sacrifice is to continue today the resistance and struggle and to revive the great vision with a radical break with any policies leading our national issue in distortion of its actual anti-occupation and international character”, he said.

Cyprus should make it clear to the EU, he insisted, that its European partners should not expect Cyprus to consent to Turkey’s membership talks being an unimpeded process if Ankara continues to refuse to fulfill its obligations.
