Greece: Strong Firefighting Forces Battling the Blaze in Gortynia and Ilia

ATHENS — Strong firefighting forces are operating in the area of Gortynia and in the neighbouring areas of the municipality of Ancient Olympia on Wednesday, the Fire Brigade said.

Seven firefighting aircraft including Beriev-200 and seven water-bombing helicopters were dousing the fire assisted by 181 fire engines with 578-member crew, 30 teams of firefighters on foot including 14 fire engines with 35-member crew from the Czech Republic, 21 firemen from UK, 38 fire engines with 139-member crew from France and 18 fire engines with 57-member crew from Germany.


ATHENS - Greece confirmed 23,340 new coronavirus infections in the last 24 hours, with 53 of these identified at entry points to the country, the National Public Health Organization (EODY) said on Tuesday.
