ATHENS – Movement For Change (KINAL) party leader Fofi Gennimata discussed the problems and challenges faced by Greek tourism in the midst of the coronavirus pandemic with President of the Greek Tourism Confederation (SETE) Giannis Retsos in a Tuesday teleconference.

In view of rendering Greece “a safer destination for foreign visitors,” she added that in terms of European policy the EU needs to “create a Common European Protocol” that would guarantee safe health practices in tourist traffic.

She also stressed the need for a special plan on Greek tourism, which she said should take advantage of Greece’s international brand-name appeal and also boost its competitiveness.

KINAL proposes that this plan includes measures to support tourism businesses and strengthen competitiveness such as zero tax advance for 2020 and suspension of debt payment.

The party also proposes a two-year VAT reduction in catering and tourist accommodation (to 6 pct) and in other tourism services (to 13 pct).
