Fire in SW Peloponnese Still Burning, Several Evacuations in Messinia Region

KALAMATA — A fire that has led to the evacuation of communities is still burning in Melpia, NW Peloponnese, on Thursday afternoon.

The Messinia region fire that broke out on Wednesday afternoon in Ihalia township has already led to the evacuation of Diavolitsi, Ano Melpia and Kato Melpia, Monastiraki, Vrachos, Agii Theodori, Parapougi, Karnasi and Desylla since Wednesday.

Firefighters are fighting the fire at a front near the evacuated Karnasi community, to prevent it from moving to houses.
